Junior League

Division 2

North Ayrshire 1 - Adam Baillie, Kieran Long

North Ayrshire 1 narrowly lost their first match to Holyrood 3-2 with both Adam and Kieran winning a singles each. Both players felt they were unlucky not to sneak a win from this match. This was a very good performance considering Holyrood's position in the league.

They then met a strong East Kilbride 2 team who ran out convincing winners 5-0. Although the score doesn't fully describe how close some of the matches were with Adam and Kieran producing some of their best table tennis.

These results leave North Ayrshire 1 currently in 6th position with 10 points after having played 6 matches.

North Ayrshire 2 - Grant Lewis, Stuart Lewis, Jamie Skelton

North Ayrshire 2 went into the days first matches sitting proudly at the top of this strong league.

But a narrow and controversial 3-2 defeat to East Kilbride 2 now sees them sharing the top spot with Drumchapel.

At 1-1 in the match Grant and Stuart lost a nail-biting doubles match 3-2 which was littered with some amazing rallies and disputed umpiring decisions. Jamie however had an excellent singles win to bring the match back to all square. But again in another controversial match Stuart lost 3-2 in a high quality close game.

This still leaves North Ayrshire 2 as strong favourites to make the play offs on the last match day in March and the Division 2 title is very much within their reach.

Division 3

North Ayrshire A - Chris Barclay, Andrew Macpherson

North Ayrshire A went into the days two matches in confident mood having only dropped 3 points and being joint league leaders with a game in hand.

Chris started with an important win, coming from behind to record a 3-2 victory in the opening match. Andrew followed this with a 3-0 win, helping to secure a comfortable 4-1 victory over one of their main title challengers, 44th Boys Brigade.

In their second match Chris and Andrew hit overdrive demolishing a stunned 278th Boys Brigade team 5-0 only losing one set in the entire match. Andrew and Chris have still maintained their 100% record in doubles this season.

North Ayrshire A are now hot favourites to take the Division 3 title in the final match and play offs.

Division 4

North Ayrshire - Ryan Kean, Lorena Lee, Jill Taylor

This was always going to be a tough test for an inexperienced North Ayrshire team facing the top and 3rd placed teams in the league.

All three players competed very well in the opening games of the first match against 44th Boys Brigade. Taking into account this was Jill's first experience in the league and Lorena not having played much recently, it wasn't much of a shock when Ryan played the final game at 4-0 down. He staged a remarkable comeback winning his match 14-12 in the fifth end to snatch a valuable point. 4-1 the final score.
This point seemed to give the whole team a lift as Ryan went on to win the opening game in the match against league leaders East Kilbride. With the match at 1-1, Lorena and Jill played probably the strongest doubles pair in the league. Quite simply they were outstanding and were ahead through out the match only losing 15-13 in the fifth end after having had two match points.
But man of the match Ryan sealed a great performance winning the fifth game. Final result, a narrow 3-2 defeat to the best team in the league - well done guys.

Finally

I would like to thank and congratulate all our players who played today. Their team spirit, sportsmanship, knowledge of the game and their general conduct is a credit to themselves and the club.
