Ayrshire Schools

North Ayrshire Schools Championships are being held at Auchenharvie Academy on Sunday 29th January 2006.This is a qualifier for the Scottish Schools final at Perth in March.

Blackpool Grand Prix

Chris and Richard Main travelled to play in the Blackpool Junior 4* grand prix on the 12th Ocotber. They were the only NATTC representitives. However, they met up with other Scottish players including fellow WOS players Craig Hardie and Sean Docherty. In the cadets Richard Main unseeded took out the number 10 seed from england and was knocked out by Myles Evans in the last 16 who went on to win that event. In the cadet band 1 he was defeated by the number 6 seed.

Richard Main qualified through his group stages and was eventually knocked out by William Maybanks. Chris Main qualifed through his groups undefeated. Senior & Junior Assessment

Christopher Main was the only table tennis player from NATTC to play in these assessments. The first Scottish tournement of the season was the senior assessment which was held in Holyrood Sports centre. Chris was 8th seed but had a tough opening group with Callum Gerrad as the 2nd seed in the group. Callum came out on top with a 3-1 victory. With Chris winning his other 3 matches in his group he finished 2nd which meant he played for positions 9-15. He eventually finished 13th with wins over two juniors and losing in 5 sets three times.

This year the junior assessment was held at Dumchapel sports centre. The only NATTC player to attend was Chris Main who was 2nd seed. He finished 1st in his group which means he plays for positions 1-6. He bet Gordon Muir and Greig Matthew 3-0 however, Scott Johnston had a surprising victory over Craig Howieson the number 1 seed. Craig Hardie beat Scott Johnston 3-0. Chris lost to Craig Hardie 3-1 in a tight match and lost 3-1 against Craig Howieson. Kwelin Open

This was the last Scottish junior ranking tournament of the 2004-2005 season so most of the top Junior players attended. There was a under 21, under 18's, under 15s and under 13's boys and girls events. Kevin Morrison, Ross Mulgrew and Chris Main travelled up with Billy Main and David Love, Greg Campbell travelled up with John Campbell and Jim Love.

Chris Main was 2nd seed for the under 21's and the Junior boys. However, in the semi final of the under 21's he played and lost to the 3rd seed Scott Johnston 3-2( -8,8,9, -9,-8). But later in the day they played each other again in the semis of the JUnior boys, which Chris beat Scott 3-1(-8,8,6,4). The final of the under 21's was contested by Craig Howieson and Scott Johnston. Craig winning 3-1. The final of the under 18's was between Craig Howieson and Chris Main. Craig came out thecomfortable winner by 3-0 (-7,-5,-7).

Scottish Schools

This event was held in the Bells Sports Centre at Perth March 22nd. 8 players of our club represneted their schools in this competition. Every player earned their place by qualifying through the North Ayrshire Schools qualifier. Kevin Morrison, Ross Mulgrew, Iona West, Greg Campbell, David Love, Mark Wallace, Lewis McClucky and Chris Main all travelled up to Perth.

Greg Campbell and David Love qualified through their groups in the under 14's event and lost in the last 16. Ross Mulgrew qualified to the Consolation event and was the eventual winner due to a couple of good wins in the semis and final. Chris Main was the number 2 seed in the over 16's event and quailfied to the quarter finals by winning his group. He beat Andrew Sheilds 3-0 in the q/f, beat Toby Waterhouse 3-2 in the s/f and lost to Terry McLernon (glasgow) 2-3 in the final afgter having 3 match points in the 4th. Scottish Championships

4 member of North Ayrshire TTC travelled to perth to play and represent the West of Scotland in the inter league. Kevin Morrison, David Love, Greg Campbell, Chris Main. Kevin, Greg and David played in the under 15s age group and Chris played in the seniors.

Chris Main partnered by Terry McLernon, Jason Godfrey and Andrew McFadyen finished 4th in the senior event out of 12 which was a great result. Greg, Kevin and David made up the WOS 'b' team which finished a respectable 6th with a good win over the Shetlands.

Chris Main did well in the singles event on the Saturday with a couple of good wins. H e reached the quarter finals of the Men Band 1 with wins over Scott Jonston of Edinburgh and Derek Lundie of Greenock. In the junior event he was 3rd seed and reached to semis with a tough quarter final game against Toby Waterhouse (dfs). HE eventually got beaten off of Craig Howieson (edin). Read More...
